Animatic Storyboard

Although we had created a picture storyboard we thought that creating an animatic storyboard as this would present our ideas in more detail. This storyboard will also help us when filming our final piece as we can refer back to our ideas making sure we are following them.

The animatic story board is created by filming pictures or images that had been drawn using sounded script over the top explaining what is happening. I drew that pictures that would be used. We then discussed all the elements that have to be spoken about to explain what is going to happen within the film.

Throughout this task there were some issues, not all the group decided on what we should include within the animatic, however we sat down as a group and talked through the issues that has risen as these were resolved quickly.

Here are some of the pictures that I drew that would be included in the animatic. I have annotated round the outside of the picture showing what type of shot will be used and at what angle, how long the shot will be, what is in the shot and what transitions will be used between each shot.

This first picture shows the opening scene, this is the crime scene in the woods. This establishing shot is an exterior shot. This will be about 10 seconds long as there will be a voice over of a news reader over the top.

The second picture shows Mark and Jane arguing. This shot incorporates both an over the shoulder shot looking over Mark’s shoulder and a close up of Jane’s face. In this shot we will use the 180 degree rule so the audience doesn’t get distracted and confused about where the couple are standing in the hallway.

The third picture shows shot 5 in the opening. This is an interior wide shot, it is showing the staff room with documents on the table. This will only be about 2 seconds long as it is only intended to be used so the audience can see the papers on the table. A cut will be used to link this shot with the next.

This picture is showing the 6th shot in the opening. This is an exterior low angle close up shown the man running through the leave in the wood. This shot will only show the feet of the man, as his identity is hidden throughout the film opening. This will also be a short shot of about 5 seconds.

This is the 9th shot in the opening sequence. This is an over the shoulder shot of the man looking through the bushes looking at the girl on the swing. This is set in the park. There will be a fade used between this shot and the next.

This shot is an over the shoulder close up. The close up is showing the head of the man, by using an over the shoulder shot we can see the man putting his hand on her shoulder but identity of the man is still hidden. This exterior shot will only be about 3 seconds long.

This is the last shot in the opening of our film. This mid shot shows the empty swing. The use of the empty swing leaves the audience thinking. A fade will then be used to show the end titles.

This is the completed animatic
