The Shining Remakes

This is the remake that I helped edit along with Laura and Jenny.

As Abi felt like she didnt have much input with the first remake that we created she created her own. This isnt a bad thing as we are able to compare and contarst the different remakes, commenting and looking at the different transitions and titles used.

As a group we were given the task to remake a scene from a horror film. We were given the choice of three films that we could remake by our teacher. Before choosing a film, as a group we discussed what film would be best and how we would create each. We decided that we would create the hallway scene from the Shining. We chose this scene as it is simple but it also has many different camera angles and filming techniques. We wanted to test these different angles as they are common in many horror films. We would then be able to apply the different angles into our own horror opening that we will be creating, ensuring that it is as effective as possible following the generic horror film.

Recreating the scene also enabled the group to experiment with time management as this is important for the group to follow to make sure that all personal and group work is completed. Before filming we learnt about shot lists, in doing this we are able to use the information learnt and apply it to our final piece. Personally I think creating the remake was a really good idea, I was able to see what the group needs to improve on when creating our final piece and we also learnt how to overcome problems.

After filming we had to use the editing software to edit the film. I found this a very tedious task as the software was very temperamental and slow. From this I learnt that we need to organise our time better allowing more time for the editing to be completed. We also experimented using different transitions and titles, from this we could apply what we leant to our final piece.

Overall we learnt a lot from creating the remake. We gathered many ideas which we could use in our final piece. We leant about editing, filming techniques, generic horror elements and time management. This knowledge can be used in our final piece making it professional and effective.
